Siddaramaiah will lead Congress in elections: KPCC chief

Last Updated 02 October 2017, 19:15 IST

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president G Parameshwara on Monday did a U-turn on the issue of leading the party in the next Assembly elections.

Parameshwara said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will lead the party and that the Congress high command has already given its nod in this regard. “One person has to lead the party in the election. Sonia Gandhi (AICC president) has already announced that Siddaramaiah will lead the party,” he told reporters who sought his reaction on Siddaramaiah claiming that he will offer pooja to Goddess Chamundeshwari in the next year’s Dasara also as the chief minister.

Parameshwara had recently said that both himself and Siddaramaiah will lead the party in the polls and that the legislature party will elect the next chief minister if the Congress comes back to power.

When the reporters sought to know why he changed his version, the KPCC president lost his cool and bluntly told them not to ask any question on the issue again. “Leave this issue here. Don’t drag it. What I have told is the official statement,” he stated.
