Bribe demand: cop suspended

City Police Commissioner T Suneel Kumar has suspended Tilak Nagar police inspector Tanveer Sait for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from a bar owner and release him and two of his managers after illegally detaining them under the pretext operating beyond permissible timings.

Speaking to DH, Suneel Kumar said that, the department had been observing him after many allegations made against him in the past. The issue was brought to home minister Ramalinga Reddy’s notice also.

Tanveer Sait, had brought three persons including a bar owner and kept them in the police station one whole night and demanded Rs 2 lakh to release them. Home minister directed Kumar to probe and take action. Based on the inquiry, the allegations proved true and Kumar suspended Sait on Wednesday.

It can be recollected that, Reddy in the state police meet directed all the station in-charge officers to curb growing anti-social elements and stressed that bars and restaurants should close down.
