BSF, CRPF vie for credit

Last Updated 04 October 2017, 20:32 IST
Paramilitary forces BSF and CRPF are engaged in a verbal war to take credit for the successful operation against three militants who stormed a BSF camp near the Srinagar airport on Tuesday.

While the CRPF has claimed that it took the lead in the operation, BSF officials said the CRPF personnel were not in the crack team.

As a controversy erupted, the Ministry of Home Affairs tried to clear the air, saying what happened at the BSF camp in Srinagar was a joint operation by the BSF, CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police. “Terrorists were eliminated with equal efforts from all sides. How can you pinpoint which bullet killed the terrorists?” a senior official said.

“This is a meaningless and unavoidable fight,” he said. BSF sources said the CRPF personnel were in the cordon and were not part of the crack team. They claimed the action against the terrorists were carried out by BSF and the Special Operations Group.
