Lalu appears before CBI on hotel transfer case
RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav appeared before the CBI on Thursday after dodging summons thrice before on various excuses.

Prasad appeared to answer questions on “irregularities” in handing two IRCTC hotels to a company during his tenure as Rail Minister.

Sources said investigators asked specific questions about the case to Prasad, who’s quizzing will be followed by his son and former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav on Friday.

Sources said Prasad may be called back again if needed and would be made to confront the other accused in the case, including son Tejashwi.

The CBI accused Prasad of conspiring with others to hand over control of two BNR Hotels in Ranchi and Puri to Sujata Hotel Pvt Ltd (SHPL) by sidestepping rules and in consideration of a three-acre plot in Patna that now fetches Rs 94 crore.

The plot was first given to a firm in which his close aide Prem Chand Gupta’s wife Sarla is a Director and later transferred to Prasad’s family.

Besides Prasad and Tejashwi, the FIR has named Sarla, wife of RJD MP P C Gupta, and former IRCTC Managing Director P K Goel, SHPL Directors Vijay and Vinay Kochhar and LARA Projects LLP.

Prasad denied any wrongdoing in the transfer of hotels.
