Condemning the delay in the arrest of those involved in the killing of journalist Gauri Lankesh, members of Karnataka Dalit Sangarsha Samiti (N Murthy faction), Davangere District Committee staged a protest in Davangere on Friday.

They staged the protest outside the office of City Corporation and submitted a memorandum at the office of assistant commissioner. They raised slogans against the failure of the State government to nab those involved in the murder of writers Kalaburgi and Gauri Lankesh.

They sought the government to ensure protection to litterateurs and writers as free expression is facing a threat in the country and religious intolerance is increasing in recent years. The State government should take strong action against the forces involved in disruption of peace and communal harmony in the State, they said.

The protesters demanded the State government to implement the recommendations of Justice Sadashiva Commission that aims at ensuring internal reservation among Scheduled Castes. The government should distribute title deeds and land ownership rights to bagair hukum and forest land cultivators.

KDDS conveners Malleshappa Kukkuvada, Shabulingappa, Asif Ali, Renukayellamma, A Srinivas, K Kuberappa, Nannusaab, Adil Khan, Vijaykumar and others were present.
