Glenmark set for Bengaluru move

After enjoying a reasonable success in Mumbai and New Delhi, the Glenmark Aquatic Foundation (GFA) is set to spread their wings in Bengaluru.

GFA, in association with the Sport Authority of India South Centre, will launch an advanced training programme for select swimmers at the SAI facility by the end of this year. “We are in the final stages of getting our programme to Bengaluru,” a source close to the development told DH.

“The SAI-Glenmark Talent Identification, Development and Management (SGTIDM) programme is already in place in New Delhi and we have been successful in producing quality swimmers at the age-group level in a short time.

“In Bengaluru, the programme will be at an advanced stage where we will be providing the know-how for a swimming centre at SAI. We are looking at building a regional centre so that swimmers don’t have to go in hunt of quality training elsewhere.”

However, with Bengaluru already being the hub for swimming in the country getting top quality swimmers could be difficult for the new centre. But GAF isn’t worried about it.

“If our coaches think a certain swimmer meets what we are looking for, we will approach him. We believe that swimmers and their coaches share a special relation and we respect that. But if a certain swimmer is looking for advanced training we will welcome him,” the source clarified.
