Astrologer arrested for abetment to theft

The Siddapur police arrested five men, including a city-based astrologer, who instigated a store in-charge to steal electronic goods from the company he worked for.

The prime suspect has been identified as Damodar (42), the store in-charge at a hardware company which manufactured and sold computer accessories to IT companies. The other suspects are Krishnaraju (58), astrologer and resident of Guttepalya; Saravana (40), Seenu (34), both drivers for a courier company and Ramdas (38), brother-in-law of Damodar.

According to the police, Damodar frequently consulted Krishnaraju to seek remedies for his financial problems. Krishnaraju advised Damodar to steal valuables from his company and sell them to make a quick buck. Krishnaraju and his associate Rajendra chalked out a plan to steal the goods and asked Damodar to share the booty with him.

Damodar and his brother-in-law Ramdas struck a deal with Saravana and Seenu who were supposed to transport 1,000 monitors worth Rs 58 lakh from a company in Tamil Nadu. When the truck arrived on NICE Road on August 11, Damodar and Ramdas shifted the consignment to another truck and drove to Rajendra's house.

After the consignment was unloaded, the empty truck reached the godown on Hosur Road along with Damodar, who issued a consignment delivery voucher to Saravana. The incident came to light when the company audited their stock and found 1,000 monitors missing. The officials conducted an internal probe and later filed a police complaint.

Based on the complaint, Siddapur police detained Damodar, who confessed to the crime. The police then recovered 671 monitors which they had sold to electronic shops on SP Road. The police have also recovered Rs 10 lakh and are trying to recover other monitors. The police have arrested the astrologer on charges of abetment.
