Stepping into the real world

The valedictory function of the college, which saw students dressed in their formal best and turning up with smiles, took place recently.

The function saw the presence of many dignitaries from the MSR family — director, Kodandaram, chief executive B R Prabhakara, Venugopal Shastry and Colonel Murnal. Besides these guests, the parents and alumni were all a part of the gathering as well. The chief guest of the function was Ramiah Daniels, General Manager, The Lalit Ashok. All the dignitaries expressed their best wishes to the students.

Said Ramiah Daniels as he addressed the students, “I am delighted to address a whole set of young minds, who will be the future general managers, vice presidents or even presidents of companies.” He adviced the students to think big and have goals. “Take a day at a time but have a goal and reach there. Don’t limit yourself to being a general manager or a manager,” he added.

Speaking about the importance of practical experience, he said, “An ounce of experience is worth more than a ton of knowledge.” He added, “You are moving out of the protected environment of your college and there will be many expectations out of you.” Post the speech, awards and mementos were given to the students.
Said Subhash, a student of eighth-semester specialising in Food And Beverage Management, “The valedictory was a very special moment for all of us. The speeches of all the dignitaries were very motivating. None of them spoke about the glamour involved in the hospitality business, but about how to survive in the business.” As a budding sportsman, Subhash received many awards for his performances in basketball, football and cricket.

The second day saw the graduates taking a formal oath of professional and personal integrity after the symbolic candle-lighting ceremony. Emotional moments and tear-filled hugs penetrated the evening that ended in music and dancing. Added Subhash, “The second day was more interesting. We wore robes and took an oath to be good professionals in the hospitality sector. A video was made by one of my friends, Mathew Thomas, that showed our journey from the first semester till now.”
