A little care goes a long way

Deepavali’ is the time to splurge on just anything that excites you and makes you happy. The celebrations are never complete without new clothes, mouthwatering food and of course firecrackers.

Here are a few tips that can help you stay safe and celebrate in style.

Watch what you eat
The festive season means a lot of sweets and goodie boxes. Sweets are hard to resist but make sure that you don’t eat too much oily food and fried stuff because an overdose of these can leave you feeling sick. Don’t eat or gift perishable sweets because they are made long before the festival.

Stay hydrated
In order to prevent the after festival health problems, drink plenty of water and stay hydrated. Sip juice and water at regular intervals. Staying hydrated will also help you manage your hunger pangs.

Use chemical-free colours
You can always use edible things such as rice, semolina, flour mixed with edible colours.

Hand and feet care
Always wash your hands and feet well after lighting the crackers as the firework material can be toxic and bad for your health.

Wear the right kind of clothes
Take care of your clothes while bursting crackers. Make sure your children are not wearing loose, synthetic clothes. They should be wearing cotton clothes. It’s a must to take care of your sari ‘pallus’ and ‘dupattas’.

Keep water ready
One or two buckets of water should be kept by your side when you are bursting crackers so that you can immediately dip crackers in water after bursting it to diffuse it completely.

Buy good quality fireworks
Ensure that all fireworks meet the safety standards, store them in a metal box, read the instructions, never go back to a lit firework and keep a bucket of water nearby.

Keep electronic gadgets away
There should not be electronic wires, switchboards open or any electric poles where you are planning to burst crackers.

No alcohol
Do not consume alcohol if you are dealing with fireworks and never throw firecrackers carelessly or burst crackers in crowded areas.

Choose open spaces
Designate an open space to light crackers.

Watch your health
People with breathing problems should carry their inhalers.

Keep pets safe
Pets should be taken care of because it is very uncomfortable for them to bear noise pollution. Stay with them inside.
