Parking slots may be reserved for women on Church Street

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike is considering designated parking for women on Church Street.

“It is difficult for them to find slots on such a busy road. We are planning to reserve parking for them, as also for the physically challenged,” mayor Sampath Raj, who visited Church Street on Thursday, said.

Officials will discuss the proposal with the traffic police and BBMP commissioner N Manjunath Prasad, he told reporters.

The first phase of TenderSURE work on Church Street, from Brigade Road to Adiga’s and covering about 750 metres, will be done by November 15.

“The remaining 310 metres will be completed by December,” Sampath Raj said.

The Rs 8-crore road improvement project provides underground ducts for all utilities, which means no digging when a repair is called for.

TenderSURE work began in February and was to be done by August.

“The work underground took more time than expected.”

“Also, it has been continuously raining since August,” Sampath Raj said, explaining the delay.

The footpaths are being laid with granite. They will be done up with white, black and cherry-coloured stone inlays, he said.

“A road like this will not be damaged for 30-40 years. And it calls for no maintenance for seven years,” he said.

Wait till December
