CBSE to hold JEE-Main, 2018 on April 8

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will conduct the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE)-Main on April 8 next year.

"The examinations will be held in pen and paper mode (offline) on April 8, 2018," a board official said.

The dates for the online entrance test will be announced soon, along with other details, including the opening of the registration of candidates, the official said.

The JEE-Main is conducted by the CBSE every year for admissions to the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and other centrally funded technical institutes.

A Joint Admission Board (JAB) of the IITs conduct JEE-Advance for filling their seats.
Candidates qualifying the JEE-Main are selected for taking the JEE-Advance based on their performance in the test and other eligibility crietria.

The JEE-Advance will be held by the IITs on May 20, 2018. "The entire JEE-Advance, 2018 examination will be conducted in a fully computer-based test mode," the IITs had said announcing the date for the test recently.

The performance of a candidate in this examination will form the basis for admission to the Bachelor’s, integrated Master’s and dual degree programmes in all the IITs.

The top 2.24 lakh students (including all categories) will be declared qualified for taking the JEE-Advance, based on their scores in Paper-1 of the JEE (Main), 2018.

"The decisions of the JAB, 2018 will be final in all matters related to JEE-Advanced, 2018 and admission to the IITs," IITs said.

IIT-Kanpur will organise the nationwide test in 2018.
