Rahul hits back, says Gujarat is 'priceless'
The Congress on Monday hit out at the BJP which is facing allegations of bribing Patidar leaders to join their party. “Gujarat is priceless.

It has never been bought. It can never be bought. It will never be bought,” Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi tweeted.

The "Gujarati pride" card was successfully utilised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the previous Assembly elections.

Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari demanded a reaction from the prime minister on the allegations and registration of an FIR against Gujarat BJP president Jitu Vaghani.

The BJP rubbished the allegations and said it was a “drama" staged at the behest of the Congress coinciding with Rahul's visit to Gandhinagar to address an OBC rally.

Tewari recalled that the BJP had tried to coerce Congress MLAs by threatening them with raids in the run-up to the Rajya Sabha elections in the state in August.

Tewari also tried to play down Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti leader Hardik Patel's refusal to meet Rahul, who is on a day's visit to Gandhinagar.

Of the three emerging leaders in the state, OBC leader Alpesh Thakor had met Rahul on Saturday and is joining the Congress on Monday.

Rahul is also expected to meet Jignesh Mevani, who shot to fame in the aftermath of the attack on Dalits in Una.

“One thing is clear. Nobody wants to play ball with the BJP in Gujarat,” Tewari said in reply to a question whether Hardik was playing hardball with the Congress by refusing to meet Rahul.
