Hardline Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Geelani on Monday condemned the killing of civilians by the militants in south Kashmir saying “they could prove detrimental to freedom movement in Kashmir.”
A statement issued by the Hurriyat quoting Geelani said, “Commenting over civilian killings in Tral and Arwani, Geelani said that in armed confrontation between warring groups, the casualties are expected, however killing innocents neither serves any purpose for movement nor does it suit to our ethical values”.
On Sunday, unidentified militants killed a woman and a non-local vendor in separate attacks in Tral and Bijbehara areas of south Kashmir. In his autobiography released in 2012, Geelani had condemned the militant kidnappings in the past, saying they could not be justified on moral grounds.
He had also termed ‘unjustified’, the killings of innocent people for a political purpose.
