Cabbies oppose order on speed governors

Last Updated 23 October 2017, 21:03 IST

Taxi owners have requested withdrawal of the order on installation of speed governors in taxis and maxi cabs, within 10 days.

The government had passed an order on September 26 stating that vehicles with more than eight seats should install speed governors. Taxi owners said the government seemed to be favouring speed governor equipment makers. “We are supposed to pay Rs 15,000 for speed governors while it is available for Rs 3,000 to Rs 6,000 in other states.”

Taxi association chairman Radhakrishna said the national highways are being constructed on global standards. The speed limit on these roads is 80 km/hr. It is difficult to drive with speed governors.
