Last Updated 25 October 2017, 18:36 IST

The controversy over Hardik Patel meeting Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi refused to die down, with the chief minister of Gujarat and his deputy calling the leader of the Patidar quota stir a “Congress agent”.

A day after Hardik issued a strong rebuttal to having met Rahul during his one-day visit to Gujarat, CCTV footage of him meeting the Congress leader at his hotel room surfaced on Wednesday.

“Hardik is lying. We are not showing anything. You all are showing it (visuals)... We have been saying for long that they are all agents of the Congress and the agitations are inspired and instigated by the Congress,” Chief Minister Vijay Rupani told mediapersons on Wednesday.

His deputy Nitin Patel claimed that Hardik had met Rahul for 55 minutes. “For the past two years, we have been saying that he is not working for the Patel community or its benefit, but is helping the Congress indirectly. They wanted to pit the Patels against the ruling BJP. Their hidden agenda is now exposed before the country.

Hardik Patel gives three to four different statements in a day. Initially, he refused to acknowledge that there was any such meeting between him and Rahul,” Nitin said.

On Tuesday, Hardik had tweeted: “I have not met Rahul Gandhi ji but when I do go to meet him, I shall tell entire country. We shall meet on his next visit to Gujarat. Bharat Mata Ki Jai!”.

On Wednesday, while talking to the local media, he said his alleged meeting with Rahul seems to have flustered the BJP.On Monday and Tuesday, several media outlets and television channels showed CCTV visuals of Hardik entering and leaving a posh hotel near the airport in Ahmedabad, flashing news that he had met Rahul.
