Last Updated 25 October 2017, 19:53 IST

The High Court of Karnataka on Wednesday issued a notice to the state government on a petition challenging the construction of a steel bridge at Sivananda Circle.

A division bench of acting chief justice H G Ramesh and Justice P S Dinesh Kumar was hearing a public interest litigation filed by B P Mahesh and 19 others, who live near Sivananda Circle.

Earlier, the High Court had asked BBMP to hear the plea of residents around Sivananda Circle with regard to their land being acquired to construct the proposed steel bridge. The court had also directed the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) to implement TDR according to the revised scheme and in keeping with the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013.

The petitioners had moved the court contending that their property located on Hare Krishna Road is being forcibly taken over by the BBMP and their contractors in an arbitrary manner. The BBMP has proposed to construct a 1.5-km steel flyover at the Sivananda Circle.
