Sachin Pilot moves HC against ordinance

Last Updated 26 October 2017, 19:48 IST

Rajasthan Congress chief Sachin Pilot has moved the high court against the Rajasthan government’s Criminal Laws (Rajasthan Amendment) Ordinance 2017, in a bid to continue the protest against the legislation.

The writ petition, filed in the Rajasthan High Court’s Jaipur bench, contended that the ordinance, promulgated in September, violates Article 14 (right to equality) and Article 19 (1) (a) (freedom of speech and expression) of the Constitution.

On Monday, Congress had opposed the bill when it was tabled in the Rajasthan Assembly. The ordinance remains in force for six weeks, as the Bill has been referred to a select committee of the House for its reconsideration.
