Create awareness on Mathru Poorna scheme: MLA Jain

Mulki-Moodbidri MLA K Abhayachandra Jain has stressed the importance of creating awareness among pregnant and puerperal women about the Mathru Poorna scheme of the state government.

Chairing the Mangaluru taluk panchayat meeting on Friday, he said the scheme is an ambitious programme of the state government and aims at the elimination of malnutrition among the pregnant and puerperal women.

During the meeting, the child development programmes officer (CDPO) Shyamala said that door-to-door visits are being held by the Anganwadi workers to create awareness about the scheme. The information is also being disseminated at Gram Sabhas, Women's Gram Sabha and Stree Shakti meetings, she added.

The CDPO said the benefits of Mathru Poorna scheme are not being utilised by a number of pregnant and puerperal women in the district and the taluk. The scheme is meant to serve nutritious food for the beneficiaries at anganwadi centres. It is implemented with effect from October 2. If the pregnant and puerperal women cannot come to the anganwadi centres, the family members can carry the meal from anganwadi, if the house of the beneficiary is at a faraway place from the anganwadi centre, she explained.

Regarding the distribution of title deeds to the beneficiaries under 94C and 94CC, tahsildar Guruprasad said the period of receipt of applications has ended on September 12. In the cases where the people other than the real beneficiaries living in the allotted lands, steps are taken to scrap the original sanction letters and sanction the lands to those who are living there currently, he added.

A taluk panchayat member said that those who have applied for the land record copies are not getting them from the taluk office, due to mismanagement of files.

The MLA directed the tahsildar to take measures to make the records available to the applicants.

He also told the respective tahsildars of Mangaluru and Moodbidri taluks to ensure that the Aadhaar enrollment of the physically challenged is done on priority so that they can avail benefits of the schemes.

Taluk panchayat president Muhammed Monu, vice president Poornima Ganesh Poojary and others were present.
