Last Updated 28 October 2017, 18:57 IST

The State government is providing 40% subsidy on fixed assets to women and SC/ST entrepreneurs and 35% subsidy to others who set up industries in backward areas like Kalaburagi, said Medium & Heavy Industries Minister R V Deshpande.

He was speaking after inaugurating the workshop for women entrepreneurs, organised jointly by Industries and Commerce department, District Industries Centre, Kalaburagi Ladies Association Manufactures Park (K-LAMP), HKCCI and others, at Srinivasrao Ramachandrappa Raghoji auditorium at HKCCI in Super Market on Saturday.

"Karnataka is the first state in the country to provide such incentives to encourage the growth of industries," he said.

Assuring all help from his side to the women entrepreneurs, Deshpande said that IT, BT and Tourism Minister Priyank Kharge had also set aside Rs 10 crore under his department to encourage women entrepreneurs.

The minister said a lot of women had come forward to set up industries in the State and had also been successful and cited the example of Biocon's Kiran Mazumdar Shaw.

Deshpande said unlike other business were returns were quick, setting up industries required a lot of hard work and patience.

"Once industries are set up and start generating revenue, they are like 'Kamadhenu' and will nurture generations," he said.

He said one shouldn't ask for jobs but concentrate on job creation. "Self-employment should grow," he said.
Deshpande said small, medium and large industries should be set on a large scale and said that the youth should come forward to set up them by obtaining facilities from the government.

He, however, rued that there wasn't much awareness about the benefits extended by the government. Deshpande distributed land allotment letters to five members of K-LAMP. K-LAMP, an association of 200 members, had been sanctioned 50 acres to set up women's entrepreneur park at Nandur Kesaratagi industrial area. Many members of the association have been sanctioned land.

Similar parks are coming up at four other places in the state. The minister announced to provide another 10 acres of land for the park.

Kalaburagi South MLA Dattatreya Patil Revoor, IT, BT and Tourism Minister Priyank Kharge, District In-charge Minister Sharanprakash Patil, Mayor Sharan Kumar Modi and others were present.

Later, Deshpande performed Bhoomi pooja for the construction of Women's Entrepreneur Park being developed at a cost of Rs 7.5 crore at Nandur-Kesaratagi Industrial Area, on the outskirts of the city.
