Forced VRS for 250 UP engineers

Uttar Pradesh government was contemplating giving 'forced' VRS (voluntary retirement) to more than 250 ''corrupt and inefficient'' engineers of the state Public Works Department (PWD).

According to sources on Monday, those who would be given forced VRS included 150 junior engineers besides executive and assistant engineers.

Sources said several engineers against whom charges of corruption had been proved would be dismissed from service.

The BJP government has decided to screen the performance of the officials, who were above 50 years, and give them VRS if found inefficient.

The government had recently dismissed a senior provincial service officer on charges of corruption.

The employees' unions were up in arms against the government decision and have threatened to go on strike.
