5 men attack cops

Five unidentified men assaulted a homeguard attached to a Hoysala patrol team that intercepted their scooters near BHEL in Jalahalli in the wee hours of Tuesday. The injured home guard Hanumantha Raju has been admitted to hospital where he is said to be out of danger.

According to police, a Hoysala patrol vehicle that had three policemen, an ASI, a driver and home guard received an alert that bike-borne men were creating a ruckus near BEL junction and Jalahalli cross. They started checking all the motorcycles randomly.

Then two bikes with five men, who were wearing full-masked helmets approached them at around 3 am. Home guard Hanumantha Raju tried to intercept the scooters, one of them hurled a machete and attacked the guard.

The three policemen could not do much as they were outnumbered. Before they could call for reinforcement, the attackers sped away.

The Jalahalli police have registered two cases of 'attempt to murder' and 'obstructing a public servant from discharging duties' and launched a manhunt for the five assailants.
