Coaches against unqualified trainers

Senior coaches at the Sree Kanteerava stadium on Tuesday came out against unqualified coaches who train athletes in the stadium.

The response from the coaches was triggered by an allegation by a coach last week that he was barred from training his athletes at the stadium after a row with the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports (DYES) Director.

KAA secretary Chandrashekar Rai said NIS coaches, previous Olympians, Arjuna awardees, reputed international athletes can only coach the athletes at the stadium.

"Others can use the 200M track or can give coaching outside the stadium," he said, adding that athletes have not been barred from using the facility.

Seasoned coaches strongly opposed the presence of unqualified coaches in the stadium. "There are many coaches who don't have any proper credentials to train the athletes. This must be stopped," said a senior coach.
