Bisaria is new envoy to Pakistan

India on Wednesday announced appointment of senior diplomat Ajay Bisaria as its new envoy to Pakistan.

Bisaria, who joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1987, is now New Delhi's ambassador to Poland and Lithuania. He will succeed Gautam Bambawale as the High Commissioner of India to Pakistan.

Bambawale was recently appointed as India's ambassador to China.

Bisaria earlier served as private secretary to the then prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee from 1999 to 2004. He then served as an advisor to the executive director for South Asia at the World Bank in Washington D.C. from 2004 to 2008. He returned to India in 2009, and served as joint secretary (Eurasia) at the headquarters of the Ministry of External Affairs, before being appointed as New Delhi's envoy to Warsaw in 2014.
