HD Kote MLA Chikkamadu passes away

JD(S) MLA from HD Kote (ST reserved), Chikkamadu (68), who was suffering from multiple organ failure, passed away in Mysuru in the wee hours of Wednesday.

Chikkamadu was being treated at a private hospital in Mysuru for the last few days.

He is survived by two wives, Jayamma and Nagamma, two sons and two daughters.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, JD(S) leaders H D Deve Gowda and H D Kumaraswamy have condoled Chikkamadu's death.  

Chikkamadu, who was born in Kalahalli in KR Nagar taluk, was a BSc graduate and was a farmer before entering politics in 1977, by contesting from the then Mysore Lok Sabha constituency as an Independent. He was defeated in the poll.

He joined the Congress during the tenure of S Bangarappa as chief minister.

In 1991, he was elected for the first time as MLA in the byelection to the Hunsur constituency from the Congress. In 2005, Chikkamadu joined the JD(S) and was elected as an MLC in 2006.

Chikkamadu suffered four defeats in the Hunsur Assembly constituency, before contesting from the HD Kote seat on a JD(S) ticket in 2013.
