Complete irrigation projects in Odisha, AP, Karnataka without delay: Gadkari

Union Water Resources Minister Nitin Gadkari has instructed officials to complete various projects under the government's irrigation scheme in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka "without any delay", according to an official statement.

Gadkari held a meeting to review the progress of various projects under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) here yesterday.

"Expressing satisfaction over the progress of various PMKSY projects in these states, Gadkari asked the officials to implement the pending projects as per the timeline without any delay," according to the statement released here today.

The minister said that one of the eight PMKSY projects in Andhra Pradesh had been completed. Six others would be completed within the current financial year. The remaining one would be completed in the next financial year.

Out of the total eight projects in Odisha, two have been completed. Three other projects are expected to be completed in this fiscal. The remaining three projects will be completed in the next financial year.

Karnataka has five such projects. Of these, one has been completed, while the remaining four are likely to be completed during the next fiscal.

According to the government, the major objective of PMKSY is to achieve convergence of investments in irrigation at the field level, expand cultivable area under assured irrigation, improve on-farm water use efficiency to reduce wastage of water, and enhance the adoption of precision-irrigation and other water-saving technologies.
