Maiden women wrestling contest

While Hampi is gearing up for adventure sports as part of Hampi Utsav, Kamalapur and Malpangusi on the outskirts of Hampi are ready to host rural sports along with power lifting competitions for women.

The power lifting competition will be held in seven weight categories and participants from Mysuru, Shivamogga and other districts are expected to take part in the events.


This time, wrestling competition has been organised for women also. While the competition will be held in two categories-Above and below 50 kg or women, it will be held in 56 kg to 105 kg categories for men.

Youth empowerment & sports department in-charge assistant director Rehmat Ulla said that this is for the first time that women upto 50 years and above 50 years of age have been given chance to participate in the competition.

Till now, the competitions were held for girls and boys only.

Women from Bagalkot and Gadag districts are expected to take part in wrestling competition which will be held on knock out model.


Every year, only day light volleyball matches used to be held.

But this time, a well-equipped ground has been got near Santosh Pete of Kamalapur and so, floodlight matches of volleyball have been organised.


A total of ten teams including that from Davangere, Bagalkot, Belagavi, Koppal, Adoni, Kurnool, Hosapete, Ballari, Kudligi and others will compete in the Kabaddi.

Rural sports

Based on demand from competitors, stone lifting competitions have been organised in three categories-75 kg to 135 kg.
