Public Works and District in-charge Minister H C Mahadevappa on Thursday, directed the officials and the organisers of the 83rd All India Kannada Sahitya Sammelana to ensure that the event will be a great success. The sammelana is scheduled for November 24 to 26 at Maharaja's College Grounds in the city.

During a preparatory meeting held at the Government Guesthouse here, Mahadevappa said, the event should be a meaningful one and spread the message about the state, its art, architecture, and Kannada language among others.

The minister said that the officials should take responsibility as the MLAs and ministers will be busy with the Assembly Session. He asked the authorities to rope in all the dignitaries in the city to make the event a significant one.

"The event should attract more number of people. It should be popularised across the state. The officials should put up banners and posters across the district. KSRTC officials should use the buses to promote the event. However, Kannada flags made of cloth only should be used for the purpose," he said.

"The Kannada Sahitya Parishat (KSP) had asked Rs 10 crore from the government and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has released Rs 6 crore. I will ask the CM to sanction more funds. The authorities should ensure hygiene and cleanliness during the event and also prepare traditional food items. The officials should conduct meeting with the hotel association members to ensure accommodation facilities for the participants," the minister said.

Explaining about the ongoing works, Kannada and Culture Assistant Director H Chennappa said, 13 committees, comprising people's representatives, officials and members of KSP, have been formed. Mahadevappa asked the committee members to conduct meetings to chalk out plans and asked the officials to submit an action plan before November 4. He also released the sammelana posters.
