History-sheeters warned ahead of Tipu Jayanthi

Ahead of the Tipu Jayanthi in view of maintaining law and order in the city, the City Police have issued stern warnings to history-sheeters under the Mysuru City Police Commissionerate on Friday. The police conducted a history-sheeters parade at the City Armed Reserve (CAR) Grounds in the city.

As many as 991 people are listed as history-sheeters for their involvement in various criminal activities. Out of them, 500 persons, including two women, attended the parade. The remaining 491 were absent for various reasons. Accused, serving judicial custody, and those suffering from health issues were absent for the parade.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Law and Order, N Vishnuvardhan, issuing warnings said, anti-social elements would be booked under Goonda Act if they are involved in criminal activities on any occasion. The DCP said as many as 30 sheeters have appealed to the department to remove their names from the list. We will remove the names if they have changed their ways, said the DCP.

While 330 history-sheeters are under KR Sub-Division, NR Sub-Division has the highest of 406 sheeters and Devaraja Sub-Division has the least 255 sheeters. The police enlist accused who were involved in criminal activities such as murder, robbery, sexual harassment, chain-snatching, fraud among other crimes.

Stating that the police have received complaints about hafta collection, the DCP said that the police and Anti-Rowdy Squad are watching the people involved in such activities. The police collected fingerprints, phone numbers, address, photographs and other details of the sheeters.
