Belgian royal couple to meet PM

The Belgium royal couple, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, is currently on a visit to India on an invitation from the President Ram Nath Kovind.

The royal couple arrived in New Delhi, late night on Sunday and went to Agra, Uttar Pradesh, to see the Taj Mahal.

"The Taj Mahal is a poem to the greatness of the eternal love in the most brilliant white marble," the Royal Palace of Belgium posted on Twitter along with the pictures of the couple at the mausoleum. "Taj Mahal, ode to love and immortalized in the beautiful white marble."

On Tuesday, They will be accorded a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of the Rashtrapati Bhavan and the King will have a meeting with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

This is the first visit of the king to India after his accession to the throne in 2013.

The royal couple is being accompanied by six ministers of Belgian Government and a high powered business delegation - the chief executive officers of 86 companies, 13 chiefs of academic institutions of the West European country, the ministry of external affairs said.

Belgium was also among the first European countries to establish a diplomatic mission in India after independence.

Presently India is Belgium's second largest export destination and third largest trade partner outside European Union. The bilateral trade amounted to $ 13.28 billion in 2016-17. Exports from India to Belgium accounted for $ 5.65 billion, while imports from Belgium accounted for $ 6.62 billion.

Diamond trade overwhelmingly dominates Indo-Belgian commerce. Trade in gems and jewelry constitutes over 75% of the bilateral trade and diamonds make up more than 80 % of Belgian exports and more than 40 % Belgian imports from India. Belgian companies' cumulative investment in India worth over US $ 1.01 billion for the period April 2000 - June 2017.
