A 60-year-old ex-serviceman was held by security  personnel at the  Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) here on November 2 while boarding  a flight to Pune with four .22 unlicensed bullets and two empty cartridges.

Bade Babanarao, of Pune, had arrived in Bengaluru by train to visit his daughter in Indiranagar and was going back by a Spicejet flight.

Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel spotted the ammunition while scanning his hand baggage. They detained him and started questioning him while members of his family were still at the airport to see him off. Preliminary enquiry revealed that Rao had obtained the ammunition from a friend named, Shankar Singh, who  is also  an ex-serviceman.  He put them in  the bag and forgot to take them off,  police said.

The CISF informed the KIA police who verified Babanarao's claims that seemed  truthful. They, however, registered a case.
