MLA K G Bopaiah has appealed to the people of Kodagu to voluntarily extend their support to the Kodagu bandh in protest against Tipu Jayanti celebrations on Friday.

Briefing reporters here on Thursday, he said, "The government celebrates a Jayanti which majority of them have been opposing. Tipu Jayanti is being observed by hurting the sentiments of the people of Kodagu. Tipu is a bigot who destroyed temples in Kodagu district."

There is evidence  to prove that Tipu had destroyed 310 temples in Kodagu. The sculpture of an elephant at Bhagamandala was destroyed by Tipu. Tipu had even attempted to attack Talacauvery. He treacherously massacred Kodavas at Devatiparambu.

MLA M P Appacchu Ranjan said that Tipu had attacked Kodagu 32 times. In spite of it, the state government terms him as a freedom fighter.

Tipu had forcibly converted Christians and attacked churches in Mangaluru, he said. Stating that Muslim organisations had not asked the state government to observe Tipu Jayanti, he said that the state government is observing it for political purpose. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is engaged in sowing the seeds of hate among the religions.

MLC Sunil Subramani said that while Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has no time to visit Talacauvery, he has time to celebrate Tipu Jayanti.

ZP president B A Harish accused the state government of failing to release funds to fill potholes. The Zilla Panchayat will condemn the celebration.
