Shaktinagar, Raichur: Owing to technical snag, gas leakage has been reported in the third unit of the Raichur Thermal Power Station (RTPS) at Shaktinagar.
Following traces of chemicals in the canals, the officials inspected the power generating units and instructed that the gas being released into the canals from the units should be immediately cleaned. As precautionary measures, the workers cleaned the unit through the night to avoid the chemical-mixed water from entering the river.
C Venugopal, chief executive officer, RTPS, said, "There was leakage of gas due to pressure in the safety valve of the third unit of the RTPS which has a capacity of generating 210 MW of power. The repair works have been implemented and the leakage has been arrested," he added.
Very recently, there was a gas leakage reported in the fifth unit of the RTPS which has a capacity to produce 210 MW of power, which also led to the flow of chemical-mixed water into the river.
