RSS worker hacked to death in Kerala

A RSS activist was hacked to death by a gang of unidentified men near Guruvayoor in Thrissur district on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Anand (28), a resident of Nenmini in the district. He was listed as second accused in a case related to the killing of CPM activist Fazil, about four years ago. Anand was recently released on bail.

Preliminary reports said a car carrying a group of four men rammed into Anand's motorbike at about 1.15 pm. The armed assailants assaulted Anand and a friend who was travelling with him. After the attack, the assailants abandoned their car and fled.

Anand was shifted to a private hospital in Chavakkad where he was declared brought dead. The condition of his injured friend is reported to be critical.

A police official in Guruvayoor told DH that it was too early to confirm the motive behind the assault or details of the assailants. The BJP claimed that activists of the ruling CPM were behind the killing.

Local RSS leadership claimed that the police failed to act despite open threats made earlier on Anand's life.

BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan said "Communist terror" was surging in the state. The political killings involving the CPM and the BJP-RSS workers have dominated political discourse in the state since the CPM-led Left Democratic Front government assumed office in May last year.

The BJP recently organised a state-wide rally under Rajasekharan titled Janaraksha Yatra, against "jihadi and Leftist terror".

The BJP called for a strike in Guruvayoor and Manaloor Assembly constituencies on Monday to protest the killing.
