Mysuru-Bengaluru highway works to be done in 3 weeks: Mahadevappa

PWD Minister H C Mahadevappa on Tuesday said the government will complete the repair works on Bengaluru-Mysuru national highway in three weeks.

Replying to JD(S) MLC K T Srikante Gowda, he said the highway is damaged due to heavy rains recently. Directions have been issued to immediately take up the repair works and complete them in three weeks.

This apart, he said the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is planning to take up the proposed project to convert the highway into a six-lane road soon.   Union Minister for  Road Transport & Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari has assured to launch the project in January next year.

Mahadevappa also said work on repair works on Shiradi Ghat road will be taken up in January next, and it will be completed by April the same year.

Action against adulteration

Minister for Horticulture and Agriculture Marketing S S Mallikharjun on Tuesday said the state government will take strict action against the officials who are turning a blind eye on adulteration of pepper in the state.

Replying to Congress MLC S Veena Achaiah in the legislative council, he said he has ordered an inquiry into the issue of adulteration of pepper. It has come to notice that the officials are turning a blind eye in this regard. Strict action will be taken against erring officials, he added.

Large quantity of low-quality pepper is being imported from Vietnam via Sri Lanka. The imported pepper is being mixed with high-quality pepper grown in Kodagu and Chikkamaluru districts. The State government has already brought this issue to the Centre's notice, urging it to take action to regulate the import, the Minister said.
