Toll-free number to complain about railway catering

In addition to the phone line, the Railway Ministry has also established a web-based complaint management system, as part of its efforts to  improve catering services in trains. It will also commission audits to reputed agencies and would conduct customer satisfaction surveys.

The ministry would also launch a special drive to improve catering services in premium trains.

These measures will be in place until the ministry completes a full review of the catering services.

In a written reply to Rajya Sabha , Minister of State for Railways E Ahmed said 706 complaints about the quality of food in rail catering services were received in 2009-10. While those involved were punished in 300 cases, warnings were issued in 307 other cases.

Pending review of catering policy, the ministry is managing  catering services in certain Rajdhani trains and all new Duranto trains. The IRCTC is departmentally managing catering services in important Rajdhani trains and Duranto trains.
