Colourful events mark Children's Day in City

The city witnessed various events on Children's day on Tuesday. The celebrations involved art exhibitions, talent exhibition among other programmes.

A week-long celebration by Bengaluru Childline 1098 started on Tuesday. The helpline introduced a campaign 'Childline se Dosti,' (CSD) to make general public take part in the helpline's programmes.

The programmes included creating posters which provided information on child protection. Tying 'CSD Suraksha Bandhan' band was a significant part of the event.

According to the helpline, it received around 12,300 calls in the last one year. The organisation is conducting various programmes to educate public about children protection.

Other programmes included talent show by around 75 visually impaired kids. The aim of the event was to encourage people to notice the ability beyond impairment.

Sankara Eye Hospital Bangalore and Young Indians-CII supported by Surya for Life hosted the event. Kids exhibited dance, singing, instrumental music, mimicry, beat-boxing and many other talents.

The HCG foundation organised an art activity with paediatric patients under the guidance of Bhagya Ajaikumar, director, Swasti Art Gallery at HCG. The activity celebrated the spirit of young warriors who painted the canvas with the colours of their innocence and energy.

Among other programmes were the launch of India's first Children News Service, a makeshift news service and news-talk-game show run by kids for kids, taking on India's biggest problems and solving them with design-thinking and skill.

The department of women and child welfare also celebrated the day.
