DC warns action against erring fair price shops

Speaking at a meeting of Fair Price Shop owners and distributors of petrol and kerosene dealers here on Friday, the DC warned that the licenses of fair price shops which do not display the price list will be cancelled. The name of the fair price shop owner, the licence number should be displayed compulsorily. He directed the FPSs to follow unit system of public distribution system while selling food grains
.
Observing that there had been numerous complaints of improper distribution of food grains at fair price shops, the DC asked the shop owners to contact him directly in case of any problem in allotment.

“It is true that FPS owners do not get much profit. But it is no justification to adopt unfair means. The issue of profit would be discussed with the authorities concerned,” he stated. The role of fair price shops and petroleum dealers is vital in transforming Chikkaballapur as a model district, the Deputy Commissoner said.Additional Deputy Commissioner G S Nayak said that fair price shops have not been following the guidelines issued by the government and strict action would be initiated against the errant ones.Deputy Director of Department of Food and Civil Supplies Sridhar, Tahsildar Purnima and others were present in the meeting.
