Seven more patients died in the state on Friday due to non-availability of medical treatment on the fifth day of doctors' strike against the Karnataka Private Medical Establishments (Amendments) Bill.

Two people in Tumakuru district and a four-month-old baby in Chikkaballapur district breathed last for want of timely medical assistance.

Sadashivaiah (55) of Koratagere in Tumakuru district developed chest pain in the early hours of Friday. He was taken to a private hospital where treatment was not available. He died en route to the government hospital.

Prashanth Kumar (35) of Kaggere village in Kunigal taluk of Tumakuru district suffered a heart attack and was taken to a private hospital in Kunigal town. Since the hospital was shut down, he was shifted to a government hospital. He died on the way, his family members said.

A four-month-old male baby died of respiratory problems in Chintamani of Chikkaballapur district. The yet-to-be-named child of Munikrishna and Shwetha was taken to a private hospital in Kolar.

Meanwhile, patients in Pavagad taluk of Tumakuru district have been heading to the hospitals in Madakasira, Hindupur, Kalyanadurga and Ananthpur in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh for treatment. R L Jalappa hospital in Kolar has been functioning, providing treatment to the patients.

Two women died in Mangaluru for lack of medical attention. Puja (19), a college student was suffering from a kidney ailment and had been undergoing dialysis. Her family members alleged that she could not undergo dialysis due to protest by doctors as a result of which she died. A woman in Belthangady, who had consumed poison, died for want of emergency treatment.

A 24-year-old man, who was married five days ago, died for want of treatment in Gajendragadh in Gadag district. The deceased has been identified as Ravi Bhajanthri (24), a driver. He developed a high fever on Thursday and was taken to local private hospitals where treatment was refused, sources in his family said. His condition worsened on Friday morning and he passed away even as his family members were planning to shift him to a hospital.

Kusumavva Balappa Sadalagi (57) of Mygoor village in Jamkhandi taluk of Bagalkot district, who was bitten by a snake, died as she did not get timely treatment. She was bitten by a snake while working on an agricultural farm. Her family members took her to private hospitals in Jamkhandi where treatment was not available. By the time she was shifted to the government hospital in Jamkhandi, Kusumavva had breathed last.
