Muslim parties reject Shia board's proposal

Muslim parties in the Babri Masjid dispute rejected the Shia Waqf Board's proposal on Monday.

A senior member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) and Sunni cleric Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firangimahali said that the Shia Board was not a party in the litigation and hence it was not authorised to negotiate in the matter.

Iqbal Ansari, one of the main Muslim plaintiffs, termed the proposal a "political stunt".

"Only parties in the dispute can put forward any proposal," said Ansari.

All India Akhara Parishad president Mahant Narendra Giri said that he would speak with the Muslim parties and try to bring them on board.
