Bhuvi the standout bowler for Srinath

Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammad Shami and Umesh Yadav displayed a fine array of pace bowling here against Sri Lanka, nearly pulling off a come-from-behind win for India but former India pacer Javagal Srinath singled out Bhuvneshwar, who was declared the man of the match, for some special praise terming him a "complete bowler."

"Like Terry Alderman, what we used to see a long time back," Srinath told DH.

"He is able to pitch the ball in the right areas and he has increased his pace as well. I think the way he moves the ball, the control that he exercises on the ball and the accuracy level he maintains is unbelievable. Be it Tests, ODIs or T20Is, I think he is a complete bowler."

While Shami and Umesh have been more regular than Bhuvneshwar, Srinath had no doubt that the Uttar Pradesh bowler, who has sought rest for the remainder of Test series against Lanka, has emerged as the leader of the pack from being a support bowler.

"Now, he (Bhuvneshwar) has to continue the good work and he needs to be supported well at the other end. What I see about Bhuvneshwar is that he is a match winner in his own terms. What we see generally is there is one quick who is looking to run through the side and at the other end will be a support bowler. What we saw of Bhuvneshwar three years ago was that he is a support bowler but now he has risen to a level where he has accepted the main responsibility. He looks like a wicket-taking bowler at all times in the match."

Currently an ICC Match Referee, Srinath felt Bhuvneshwar needs to be supported at the other end by bowlers who can be accurate. "He needs one or two bowlers to support him, guys who can be a little more accurate more than pace. If Umesh and Shami can be a little more accurate and dry up the runs, they can run through any side. With a bit of bounce and carry, they can be very handy especially in Australia or England or South Africa. You also require someone who can seam and swing. What I see of Bhuvneshwar is he is able to swing the ball in the air and seam the ball off the pitch. The variety he brings is unbelievable. And I was mesmerized with the way he reverse swung the ball yesterday (Monday) and the pace he bowls at is good enough to put the batsman in trouble."
