Brisk lobbying in Kolar Cong as politicos scramble for tickets

KOLAR: In view of the upcoming Assembly elections, the political activity in the district has turned brisk in the Congress camp. The search for suitable candidates and the competition among them for tickets has gained momentum.

MLA Varthur Prakash who had contested the last election as an independent and won has been consistently identifying himself with the Congress party. His efforts to join Congress permanently and get a ticket this time also has failed.

Though Prakash's candidature was backed by MP K H Muniyappa who took his case to the party high command, district in-charge minister Ramesh Kumar and local party leaders do not favor him. As a result Prakash's dreams have been shattered as he might be denied a ticket this time.

In the volatile political scenario, when many disgruntled Congress leaders are threatening to break away and form a new 'Namma Congress Party', many Congress leaders who had relied on Prakash too much for support these last five years are regretting their actions.

In this sort of a situation, where they are caught in a conundrum fianalising the right candidate has become a headache for local leaders. No matter how hard they try, their efforts have come to naught.

Muniyappa's strategy:

Meanwhile, in the background, Retired IAS officer Syed Zameer Pasha has been quietly trying to bring pressure on the high command to get a ticket. But the party leaders are not keen on him because he is a new face to the electorate.

It is said that it is Muniyappa's strategy who is very close to Prakash to suggest Syed Pasha's name just for namesakes and make it easier for Prakash to get the ticket. Pasha who was the DC of Kolar earlier has now made Kolar his home and is behaving as though he is already the candidate by appearing in public gatherings frequently.

Also State Minorities Commission President Naseer Ahmed who is an influential muslim leader, is being bandied about. He had contested against Varthur Prakash and lost the elections. He is not interested in contesting as he was victimised by his own party members.

Meanwhile another senior Muslim leader Nissar Ahmed has shown interest in contesting if given the ticket and has sent word to the high command as such.

Anil Kumar tests his luck:

M L Anil Kumar, another who had contested the last MLC elections from and lost has re-emerged in the regional politics. He also lost the presidentship of MSIL and district Congress committee.

Anil Kumar who had disappeared from the political landscape of the district for a while is now intending to make a come back. Because he shares a good relationship with Health and district in-charge minster Ramesh Kumar, he too is lobbying for a ticket.

Another person who is close to Ramesh Kumar Gopal Krishna who was former State Mango Market Corporation is also in the race for a ticket. It is learnt that he has already met with senior leaders in Delhi and is trying to seek the favor of Muniyappa.

Former Legislative Council Chairman V R Sudarshan is also in the race for a ticket it is learnt. It remains to be seen who ultimately gets the ticket as the Congress candidate.
