Sports cars to vroom in coffee land from today

The sports cars are all set to ram across the terrains of the coffee land as Chikkamagaluru will host the biggest rallies - The International Asia Pacific Rally Championship (APRC) and the Indian National Rally Championship (INRC) - organised by the Motor Sports Club of Chikkamagaluru and Coffee Day Global, from November 24 to 26.

Participants from India and abroad have arrived in the city with their sports cars.

A total of 49 cars will take part in the championships. The participants of APRC and INRC will have to cover a distance of 502 km and 224.72 km respectively.

Indian rallyist Gaurav Gill and his Norwegian counterpart Ole Christian Veiby will compete for the APRC title.

Sports rally enthusiasts from India and abroad have come to Chikkamagaluru to watch the performances of their favourite drivers.

Participants from India who will take part in INRC are Arjun Rao, Satish Rajgopal. Amit Raj Jithgosh, Ashwin Nayak, Karna Kadur, Rahul Kantharaj and Vivek Bhat.

The major stages of the rally will be organised at Chattnahalli, Kammaragodu, Chandrapura and Jagiramane coffee estates on November 25 and 26.

The super special stage event will be held at Amber Vally Residential School on November 24 at 1.30 pm. The INRC will conclude on November 25 and APRC on November 26.

The rally took off with a ceremonial start on the Coffee Day Global premises in the city on Thursday. Rally enthusiasts and students thronged APRC driver Gaurav Gill to receive his autographs.

A practice session was also conducted for the participants.

Zilla Panchayat President B S Chaitrashree, Agriculture and Industries Standing Committee chairperson Kavitha Lingaraju and member Jacinta Anilkumar were present.

Cultural troupes were part of the inaugural ceremony.
