Last Updated 26 November 2017, 20:11 IST

Students of Bangalore University (BU) have filed a police complaint against Vishwesha Teertha Swami of Pejawar Mutt for his remark on the Constitution of India during a  speech  at  the VHP's Dharma Sansad in Udupi.

The Union of Bangalore University  Post Graduation and Research Students filed  the complaint at the Jnanabharathi police station.  They accused the seer of "disrespecting" the Constitution of India and  wondered why the Union and state governments had not taken any action against him.

The seer is reported to have remarked that he had no faith in the Constitution as it gives importance "to the minorities while ignoring the majority community". He urged the Centre to change the Constitution.

Police said they had received the complaint but no case had been registered against the seer.
