Children's Science Congress from tomorrow

The three-day state-level 25th National Children's Science Congress-2017 will be held on the campus of the University of Mysuru (UoM) and Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) in the city from November 29.

Addressing a press meet, Deputy Commissioner D Randeep said, Karnataka State Vijnana Parishat (KSVP), in association with the district administration, UoM, and KSOU, is organising the event with the theme 'Science, Technology and Innovation for Sustainable Development'. As many as 340 teams, comprising five students each, will present their projects. The best 30 teams will be selected for the national-level conference scheduled to be held in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, from December 27 to 30.

During the event, students will present technical papers, posters and exhibit various models, while professionals will conduct special lectures. Physics teacher M R Dasegowda, a Rajyotsava awardee, will demonstrate simple models of Physics and Assistant Director of Karnataka State Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Bengaluru, Dr Vinod J Lakkappan, will deliver a lecture on 'Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and fingerprint technology,' on November 29.

On November 30, the students can learn about rocket launches and about snakes. Public relations executive at ISRO, Bengaluru, B R Guruprasad will demonstrate the launch of rockets.

Corporator S Balasubramanya, popularly known as 'Snake' Shyam, will deliver a lecture on snakes. Hulikal Nataraj, who is known as a 'Miracle buster,' will conduct a session. On December 1, mathematician C S Yoganand will deliver a lecture on simple mathematics in daily life.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the event at the Senate Bhavan of the UoM and MLA Vasu will preside over the function. Public Works Minister H C Mahadevappa will release a souvenir.

Chairman of ISRO A S Kiran Kumar will deliver the valedictory address and Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Tanveer Sait will honour 25 students, who will be chosen as 'Yuva Vijnani' (young scientists). KRVP president and MLC S V Sankanur will preside over the programme.

KSVP vice-president S M Gurunanjaiah was present at the press meet.
