Jilted lover strangles girl, then hangs himself

A 31-year-old spurned lover strangled an 18-year-old girl before hanging himself at the former's house in Marenahalli in Vijaynagar, West Bengaluru, on Monday evening.

Police suspect that Ramakrishna alias Krishnamurthy grew furious after Divya Kumar spurned his advances.  Ramakrishna, of Marenahalli, had been working at a chicken stall  run by  Divya's uncle Madhu for  the past 15 years.

Divya,  a second-year BCom student at a private college in Vijayanagar,  was alone at home when the incident occurred around 4 pm. While Madhu had gone to Shivajinagar, Divya's mother Subhashini had been to a relative's house.  A few neighbours told the police that Ramakrishna and Divya were seen talking to each other near the main door. A little while later, they were heard screaming at each other.

Suspecting something wrong, neighbours called up Madhu and informed the police. The police arrived and found during a preliminary investigation that Ramakrishna had strangled Divya with a veil and then hanged himself in the same room.  The Vijayanagar police have registered a case of murder and suicide.
