'Special' talent displayed at sports meet for disabled

They once again proved that they were not inferior to anybody in having and showing the sportive spirit.

When they played different games, 'special persons' in different age groups not just won prizes, but they also won the hearts of others, through their active involvement and enjoyment of the games.

At the district-level sports meet for disabled persons, held at the BVBCET ground here on Tuesday, a total of 385 persons from 14 institutes across the district took part in individual and group games. Running, softball throw, shot-put and tug of war were the games for mentally retarded.

Kho-kho and volleyball were the additional games for hearing impaired persons. Visually impaired persons participated in walking race, lemon spoon race, pot breaking, and other games. Ball throw, disc throw, tricycle race and other events were held for physically disabled.

A large number of children were also among the participants. First prize winners will participate in the State-level sports meet.

Earlier, social worker Mahendra H Singhi inaugurated the sports meet organised by Disabled & Senior Citizens' Empowerment Department, and other departments. He stated that sports brings both mental and physical health, while disabled persons are also achieving new records in sports.

KLETU Physical Education Director M M Kurgodi, District Disabled Welfare Officer K M Amarnath, Dr Sunil Gokhale of KIMS, I K Lakkundi, Annappa Koli, and others were present.

Sports meet for rural rehabilitation workers and multi-purpose rehabilitation workers will be held on Wednesday (November 29).
