Only 4 legislators show up for kids' parliament

Just  four legislators turned up for the annual Karnataka State Child Rights Parliament on Tuesday, leaving more than 250 students disappointed. The children had travelled from various districts to air grievances on various issues concerning them.

But owing to the poor representation of legislators, the organisers decided to forward the questions raised by the students, to the state government, so that these can be taken  up with officials in the respective districts.

The parliament was organised by the Karnataka Child Rights Observatory in association with Unicef.

Legislative Council Chairman D H Shankaramurthy and MLCs Ramesh Babu, Ganesh Karnik and Ivan D'Souza took part in the event.

The children raised issues pertaining to the non-implementation of the child protection policy, the lack of infrastructure and shortage of teachers in schools.
