Techie jailed for raping blood relative

A software engineer sexually assaulted his blood relative and made her pregnant by promising to arrange treatment for her ailment in Bengaluru.

Police said a 25-year-old woman –a fashion designer from Kadapa- lodged a complaint at the HSR Layout police station that her relative Harshavardhan Reddy (26) sexually assaulted and cheated her. Reddy works for an IT firm in Bellandur.

The man has been lodged in Parappana Agrahara Central Prison for the crime.

The woman said in her complaint that she first met Reddy at Silk Board junction on April 6, when he proposed marriage to her.

Both of them were related paternally - as their grandfathers were brothers -   and had known each other from childhood.

The woman went back to her hometown but stayed in touch with Reddy. She fell sick and returned to Bengaluru after Reddy promised to get her good treatment.

Both were on their way to her sister's Paying Guest accommodation to keep her luggage, when Reddy suggested to stop over at his flat, get fresh and have some food.

At Reddy's flat in HSR Layout Sector 2, he started talking about getting married and sexually assaulted her, the woman said in her complaint.

Afterwards, she fell ill and got treated at a private clinic while claiming to live with Reddy for three months in the belief that he would marry her.

The situation turned serious after the woman became pregnant. She compelled Reddy to marry her, but he avoided her at first and went into hiding.

The woman returned to her hometown and filed a case of rape and cheating against Reddy.
