Spread humanity, develop brotherhood: Mandya Ramesh

Last Updated 30 November 2017, 16:38 IST

Students have the responsibility to carry on the heritage and legacy left behind by their forefathers, along with leading noble lives, reflecting the values of love and faith. To achieve this, the children of today should develop brotherhood and spread humanity, said theatre person Mandya Ramesh.

He was speaking after inaugurating the 'Alva's Vidyarthi Siri', a students' literary and cultural meet at Alva's Education Foundation, Moodbidri on Thursday.

Mandya Ramesh further said that all kinds of social movements should be based on human concerns. Without humanity, all the movements - whether progressive or not, will lose their meaning.

Lauding the efforts of Alva's Education Foundation in instilling cultural values among its students, he said that the children should develop an inclination towards the rich cultural aspects of Karnataka.

Presiding over the 'Vidyarthi Siri' students literary and cultural meet, SDM PU College student Arjun Shenoy said that the main issue with the students these days is lack of meaningful activities, which has posed a hindrance to the clarity of thought and expression.

Stating that Kannada is a power and not merely a language, he opined that it is the mother tongue, which builds one's cultural image.

English language helps us to keep up with the pace of globalisation. But the obsession with English should not grow to the extent that it decreases the love towards the mother tongue.

Alva's Education Foundation Chairman Dr M Mohan Alva said that education institutions should leave no stone unturned in inculcating positive values among students. There is a need to build pro-Kannada atmosphere in educational institutions.

'Shades', the collection of poems by Sannidhi R R Perla and the book on the experiences of Ananya Belthangadi, the past President of Alva's Vidyarthi Siri, were released on the occasion.

Rs 2 lakh was awarded by Alva's Education Foundation to Hamsa Bhat, the daughter of late scientist Harish Bhat.
