Anasooya Jayanthi peaceful in Chikkamagaluru

The three-day long Datta Jayanthi Utsav commenced with Anasooya Jayanthi in Chikkamagaluru on Friday. As a part of Anasooya Jayanthi, women devotees carried out Sankeerthana yathre and later had the darshana of Datta Paduke at Datta Peeta.

The Sankeerthana yathre held under the aegis of VHP and Bajrang Dal was attended by hundreds of women from different parts of the state. They sang bhajans throughout the yathre. The portrait of Anasooyadevi, Athrimuni and Guru Dattatreya was carried out in the procession. The procession commenced from Bolarameshwara temple and culminated at Srirama Temple on Ratnagiri Road.

Later, they left from Inam Datta Peeta. Amidst rain and biting cold, the women devotees had the darshana of Datta Paduke at Datta Peeta. Rituals like Anasooyadevi pooja, homa, ganahoma and durgahoma were performed under the direction of priest Raghunath Avadhani on the occasion. All women who visited Datta Peeta were given Vermillion, Turmeric and green bangles.

Same colour saree

About 60% of the women who participated in Sankeerthana yathre had worn same colour saree. "The sarees were given to us by the BJP. I have bought 50 women for Sankeerthana yathre from my village," said Sumitha from Inam Datta Peeta village.

"VHP member Vijayakumar Reddy from Bengaluru had given sarees worth Rs 10,000 to women participating in Sankeerthana yathre," MLA C T Ravi told DH.

The police have strengthened security as a part of Datta Jayanthi celebrations.
